The indicative is the principal mood and the most frequently used. It is used to express something real, something certain, a fact.
| mood | Examples |
| indicative | Lena hat kein Geld. |
| Er kommt auch auf die Party. | |
| Alex ist weg. | |
| Wenn du Lust hast, gehen wie essen. |
It is possible, however, to use the indicative in order to convey something imaginary or possible, questions, suppositions or demands. This, though, cannot be accomplished only by using the indicative mood. A combination of the indicative with other expressive means is necessary.
